The Server Virtualization workgroup is currently implementing a virtual infrastructure planning assessment tool at in-scope agencies. The assessment tool will gather, over a period of time, additional metrics needed to effectively plan and design the consolidated server virtualization environments at the Information Services Building (ISB) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) datacenters.
A review is currently underway of available server hardware resources at in-scope agencies in order to identify potential candidates for the two consolidated virtual environments. The workgroup has also had initial discussions with the Enterprise Storage workgroup to determine a logical path to migrate existing virtual environments for in-scope agencies into two consolidated virtual environments with shared storage.
Finally, the workgroup is also discussing challenges of consolidation due to management concerns from some agencies regarding data security.
