With the formation of OTS, the State has committed to a bold new direction for IT. As a consolidated organization, OTS must develop new and efficient ways of delivering information services to the agencies and citizens we serve. And with data at the center of everything we do, it is imperative that we build an enterprise data management framework that contributes to the success of the organization. The Data Workgroup will be instrumental in kicking-off this process.
The initial objective of the workgroup is to identify the mission-critical applications and data used by each in-scope agency. Mission-critical applications are those that, if they were to become unavailable, would disrupt the agency from performing its essential functions. Once identified, basic information about the data – such as business function, content, shareability, security, and compliance – is documented using a supplied data inventory form. It is anticipated that completed forms will be submitted via email to Chief Data Officer, Robert Manuel, by Friday, February 6.
With over 40 data experts from 17 agencies, this is the largest OTS workgroup assembled thus far. Such numbers present logistical challenges for meetings and discussions, therefore, the group will leverage electronic communication methods (email, SharePoint, conference calls, etc.) to the maximum extent possible.
